The Diamond Mine Megaways slot is set in the American wild west. The game has crisp, clear graphics and a whole range of bonus features. Located in an arid desert landscape with clear blue skies, and cacti growing on either side of the reels, the 6-reel grid hosts a range of mining-related symbols, including the white-bearded old prospector himself. 

This was the developer Blueprint Gaming's first-ever Megaways slot, and all the features that now seem standard for Blueprint's Megaways games caused quite a stir back in the day. Megaways online slots are becoming more popular by the day, and Blueprint got in early and set the standard after Big Time Gaming started licensing their engine to other providers.  

The grid features the usual 6 reels + one extra horizontal reel. From 2 to 7 symbols can land on each of the vertical reels on every spin, creating up to 117,649 ways to win when there is a full complement of symbols on the grid. 

The paytable starts with 9 to A card ranks as the low-pays. The more valuable symbols are a crossed pickaxe and spade, a miner’s lantern, the bearded miner and a big shiny diamond as the game’s big prize, paying 50 times the stake for a line of six. 

The bundle of dynamite is the Wild symbol. This only lands on the top reel to help form line wins. The Scatter is a sack full of gold. Unlike the Wild, this can land anywhere on the grid to trigger the Free Spins.

When it lands, the TNT barrel tends to come in clusters, and at the end of the spin, all instances on the reels can explode and randomly transform into the same regular symbol to add to the chances of forming a winning combination. 

Every win in the base game and the Free Spins is followed by a Cascade. This removes all the symbols involved from the grid. Then, the remaining symbols and new ones tumble down to fill the empty spaces. If another winning combo is formed, the process repeats. 

Four Scatters trigger 12 Free Spins, and for every additional scatter landing on the same spin, an extra five spins are given on top of the 12. During the bonus round, there is an Unlimited Win Multiplier in operation. This starts at 1x and increases by +1 with every cascade win. Three Scatters landing on one spin during the round will add five more spins to the remaining total, and four will award ten extra Free Spins.

Gameplay in Diamond Mine Megaways may seem a bit predictable now, but when it was first released, it was a whole other story. The game has stood the test of time well and is still an entertaining example of a typical Blueprint Megaways slot, although since it was the first such release, you could say it was the blueprint for the following games.
